architecture+ designed a 7,000 square foot addition to house the Academy’s emerging Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program. The addition includes four science laboratories for biology, chemistry, physics, and STEM.

The project includes flexible laboratory space to allow for cross-disciplinary use of spaces and to anticipate the future possibilities for STEM learning. A science courtyard is created by the addition allowing for an outdoor classroom to enhance the learning experience. The design incorporates natural light and visual connectivity to the interior and exterior learning spaces to foster cross-disciplinary interest. The design of the building responds to the original 1950s modern building with a more contemporary style.
