Residence Hall Renewal

Siena University |Loudonville, NY
In 2023, architecture+ was engaged by Siena University to develop a phased plan for updating three of their residence halls: Ryan (4-story), Plassman (5-story), and Hennepin (6-story). Collaborating with the Facilities Department and Residence Life teams, we developed a Residence Life Renewal Plan for these three residence halls with a total of 1,200 beds. Given the University’s need to keep the residence halls operational throughout the academic year, we devised a detailed phasing plan to meet our renovation objectives. Our team of architects and interior designers curated a distinct and contemporary palette of finishes that significantly enhances the visual appeal of each building.

Design & Construction Phasing
During Phase 1 of the project we conducted a study to evaluate renovations for the bathrooms in all three residence halls. Simultaneously, we designed renovations to the community lounges in Plassman and Hennepin Halls, with construction occuring during the summer of 2023.

Phase 2 of the plan was implemented in the summer of 2024 at Ryan Hall. The scope of work included updating finishes in the student bedrooms and hallways - new lighting, doors, luxury vinyl flooring, and clean modern paint selections - as well as fire alarm and building exhaust systems.

Phase 3 of similar renovations at Plassman Hall are currently being implemented and on target for an on time completion in August of 2025. Future plans involve similar renovation efforts at Hennepin Hall, on target for 2026, as well as bathroom renovations in the subsequent summers.
