Ward Addiction Treatment Center

New York State OASAS|Middletown, New York
This building, completed in 1994, was the first new substance abuse treatment facility constructed by the State of New York. It achieves an economy of function while providing a normative atmosphere for residents. The 60-bed treatment facility contains six separate two-story wings that are joined by interior connecting paths and enclosed exterior courtyards. It takes advantage of the support that the built environment can provide to a rehabilitation program.
Project Type:
Addiction Treatment

All rooms, whether bedrooms, offices or meeting and activity areas, have generous windows providing natural light and views into the surrounding park. Participation in the program is voluntary. As a result, the ability to provide security within the context of a “non secure” facility was imperative.
