Middletown Alcoholism Treatment Center

New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse

Middletown, New York

he 60-bed campus contains six separate two-story wings that are joined by interior connecting paths and enclosed exterior courtyards. It takes advantage of the support that the built environment can provide to a rehabilitation program. All rooms, whether bedrooms, offices or meeting and activity areas, have generous windows providing natural light and views into the surrounding park.

Participation in the program is voluntary. As a result, the ability to provide security within the context of a "non secure" facility was imperative. The building achieves an economy of function while providing a normative atmosphere for residents.
