Crispell Hall Renovation

SUNY New Paltz

New Paltz, New York

architecture+ completed design and construction documents for the $9.7 million renovation of this 1960's era residence hall. This project is the first in a series of residential construction projects that SUNY New Paltz is implementing as the result of the Master Plan prepared by architecture+.

The interior renovations upgrade the existing facility to improve livability, comply with the current building codes, and improve accessibility while maintaining the bed capacity. A variety of study, computer, and recreational lounge spaces have been incorporated into the interior design. The elevator was repositioned in the building in proximity to the entrance to allow all floors of the building to be accessible. Wasted hallway space was captured into suites to allow for larger lounges and bathrooms within the suites.

The building exterior will be completely transformed by the addition of a sloped metal roof to the existing flat roof. A new more welcoming entrance vestibule was introduced. The design incorporates many energy efficient and sustainable concepts. This project is registered with the LEED certification goal of Silver.
