Pitts Co-Authors Healthcare Articles

September 29, 2005

Francis (Frank) Murdock Pitts, founding partner of architecture+, has recently published two articles that offer in-depth reviews of the history of two important areas of healthcare facility design.

In Therapeutic Environments, Frank and his co-author (D. Kirk Hamilton) review the development of the therapeutic environment movement from its inception in the 1980s to its connection with the neurosciences and its contributions to evidence-based design. The close connection of both authors with this movement creates a unique perspective.

In Ten Lessons Learned, Frank and his co-author (Donald McKahan) present the results of their multi-year research on iconic healthcare facilities design in the 1990s. They examine the characteristics shared by these innovative facilities and share valuable lessons on the importance of flexibility.
