First Niagara Financial Group, Inc.|Troy, New York
We restored this 145-year-old National Landmark building including its internationally acclaimed Music Hall in the 1990s. As part of this $4.2 million project, the exterior was restored, offices were renovated, and upgrades were made for ADA compliance. We used specialized plaster ceiling stabilization techniques so that the hall’s acoustics would not be impacted. The restorations are certified by the Federal Park Service and acclaimed as an exemplary historic renovation project.

The exterior was gently cleaned with mild solvents and low pressure water spray. The red slate roofing was completely removed and replaced with red slate mined from the original quarry. For safety reasons, all roof metal castings were replaced with nodular cast iron. The sheet metal fascias were fabricated and replaced to match the original fascias. Original stained glass was cleaned, repaired, and re-glazed where necessary and all sealants were removed and repaired.

We also completed interior renovations in preparation for the buildings’ 130th anniversary in 2004. Work included custom designed carpeting, reupholstering and refinishing original seating, floor refinishing, and painting appropriate to the historic period of the building.

In 2014, architecture+ coordinated a project to replace the stage lighting system. We worked with a theatrical lighting designer to implement a new hoist and truss system that allows for flexibility in lighting scenery that accommodates a wide variety of performances. Minor structural modifications were made in the attic to support the new system.
