architecture+ designed the renovation of the SUNY System Administration conference room and event space located on the third floor of the building known as the Federal Courthouse.
The building is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in the late 1800s, it served as the home for several federal agencies until it was acquired by SUNY in the 1970s. At that time, it was extensively renovated to serve as a part of SUNY’s administrative headquarters. The original courtrooms were used as meeting space and had not been significantly renovated since their original conversion.
This space is comprised of two rooms that once served as courtrooms and an antechamber located in between. architecture+ reconfigured the approach to the space, upgraded all finishes, improved the acoustics, and upgraded the infrastructure to meet modern needs. In addition, we designed the repair of ornamental plaster and the refurbishing of the historic woodwork to its original state.
