Computer Café
Troy, New York
Hudson Valley Community College

This energetic, open-access, computing facility and lounge is the hub of the campus. It is separated from the Campus Center lobby by glass block walls and is open to the dining area above. Windows are separated by perforated steel fins that diffuse the natural light. The Cafe features 90 fully networked computer workstations and a help office.

Various arrangements accommodate group study, private research/instruction, or social interaction. The facility also includes a training room with 18 dedicated workstations. As a complement to the unconventional design, the school broke protocol to allow a cafe cart for refreshments throughout the school day.
